Why SEO YouTube Tutorials are Not Enough

If you’re a small business trying to get started in SEO, you’ve probably turned to YouTube tutorials. Although YouTube can be a good starting place to learn about whatever your heart desires, it is still not the final lesson. SEO tutorials on YouTube can be a great launching pad, but there’s a slim chance you get the final results that you want. Why is this?

  • They may not be telling you everything you really need to know. Be honest with yourself, do you really think that Bill Gates is gonna give the blueprint for his success on YouTube for free? No. Most people who reach that level of success are only going to reveal their secrets to those who are willing to pay. Whether that’s through a training course run by them, an exclusive club they’re involved in, or a collection of books detailing their road to stardom. Either way, it’s going to cost you to know the road map to their success and even then, you have no way of knowing if they’re telling you the full story or not. The same concept applies to trying to learn SEO on YouTube. The person may or may not claim they’re telling you everything, but you should not blindly trust them on that. They could be doing it for clicks, views, or working their way up the YouTube algorithm. As a reminder, this is not a bad thing – they should pull back a little and reserve their most prized information for a select group. It is not their responsibility to make you rich.
  • Credibility of the person teaching SEO in the YouTube tutorial. Is this a tutorial led by a college student who decided to make a video about what they know about SEO or are they an SEO professional who has experience and decided to make a video about a few tips to remember when getting started on SEO. This is very important. You don’t want to waste your time. The college kid could be knowledgeable and simply want to share what they know. But whoever it is – just know that it’s a start.
  • They can only get you so far. This kind of goes back to the first point. YouTube tutorials on SEO can only take you so far when it comes to getting the knowledge you need to do SEO yourself. The vast majority of SEO professionals have gone through an SEO course run by an expert, got a certification or degree with heavy SEO coursework or they’ve done it for a while. Whether in class or in life, they’ve had an education on SEO in order to be successful in it. That’s just how it is. There is an abundance of information offered in education programs about SEO that you will not find on YouTube.

The beloved video app is a good launching pad to gather basic information about SEO, but not the place to learn how to do it professionally.

If you want real results that will get customers through your door, it is a given that you will have to invest time, money, and energy into achieving your goal. It is great to have background knowledge in SEO and experiment with some things yourself, but eventually you are going to have to be formally educated or to go to a professional to get your best results.
