4 Ways You Can Get More Online Reviews

You know how important online reviews are to the growth of your small business, but how do you get them? It may seem like a daunting task manually asking every single one of your customers for a review, but it’s 2020 and there are many different ways to make getting online reviews a lot easier! Let’s look at some popular ways to get more reviews:

  1. Try getting the most reviews on your Google businesses profile. Did you know that 60% of people depend on Google for online reviews? Facebook follows behind as second at 14% and yelp at 11%.  Your best strategy would be to get more reviews on the site that most people depend on. Many of us rely on Google in our daily lives so it’s not surprising that we would turn to Google reviews for insight on a specific business before we spend money. Just like the algorithm when it comes to websites, so goes the same thing with business profiles. The businesses that have the most reviews, whether good or bad, are going to be ranked by those reviews. Usually they’ll put the best rated business first, but if you have a five star business with 10 reviews, the other business rated orange 3 ½ stars with 400 reviews will most likely be before you.  
  2. Negative reviews. Negative reviews about your small business can sting a little, but don’t take it too hard. Sometimes you will get petty reviews. Some people are very nit picky when reviewing a business and will exaggerate minor problems. For example, you can have one person say the food was amazing at a four star restaurant, but give them a two because they had to wait 30 minutes for their food on a busy Friday night. You can ignore those types of reviews and focus on the legitimate negative reviews. For example, if you find that several customers have complained about their food being served cold, then that would be the type of reviews that you need to pay attention to. Try looking at negative reviews as feedback on what your business needs to improve on. 
  3. Do something about those negative reviews! When you get negative reviews online, don’t just ignore them. Take action and try to get to the bottom of it. One way to do this is to respond to the customer’s negative review professionally. Apologize for the unfortunate experience and offer them a solution. When you respond to a negative comment in a respectful and professional manner, it says a lot about who you are. Don’t expect them to change their review, but always remember that your replies make you look good and help with your business’s reputation. You do not want to be known as the business that never does anything about negative reviews or even worse, comes across as the crazy/angry business owner. 
  4. Email. You can have your customers subscribed to an email list that asks them for feedback. You can have these emails automatically sent to them periodically and over time you will eventually get some people who are willing to rate their experience and give their opinion.
